Dubai has been growing at an average rate of 6.4 per cent a year, with a population that's looking to increase from 1.1 million today, to 4 million by 2017. This is enormous by international standards.
It's growth as an economic and tourism powerhouse is having a massive impact on its ever-changing skyline - which barely resembled a town only a couple of decades ago. Although the city's property market has deteriorated significantly over the last few years as a result of the Global Financial Crisis, it's managed to maintain a GDP rivaling that of western cities (seeing a growth of 4.3% between 2010 and 2011).
Crazy stuff. I'll be heading over there soon to check it out!
