'Stencil graffiti' and 'sticker art' subculture has been around for a good few decades. Back in 1985 Australian photographer Rennie Ellis documented some early Sydney and Melbourne examples in his book "The All new Australian Graffiti".

It's only been in the last few years however, that these forms of graffiti have really exploded into the mainstream (with people like Banksy giving it worldwide attention).
